Banksy, Elbow and Idris Elba Have a Message for You About Syria
To mark the third anniversary of the civil war in Syria, Banksy, Idris Elba and rock band Elbow have teamed up to release this remindful video as part of a global vigil. The video features one of Banksy’s most iconic images, that of the little girl holding a red balloon, but this time it floats above a war-torn and blood-strewn landscape.
As other people join the little girl rising with red balloons in solidarity, music from Elbow plays and Idris Elba asks us all to “stand #WithSyria” and help end the conflict.
His girl with a heart balloon artwork, which he has recreated for the #WithSyria campaign, is reworked in the guise of a young Syrian refugee.
She holds on to the balloon as it rises over the civil war-torn country, passing buildings destroyed by bombs and children kneeling next to the bodies of the dead.
To the stirring sounds of Elbow’s recently-released The Take Off and Landing of Everything’, he says: “On March 15, 2014, the world will wake up to the third anniversary of the bloody conflict in Syria.
