One thing that Stanley Kubrick’s classic Vietnam war movie isn’t, is feel good. Instead it’s a dark look at the futile nature of war and the grim training that, in this case, marines must go through to turn them into killing machines. But that hasn’t stopped someone from turning the film, and R. Lee Ermey’s famous phrases, into a movie trailer that warms the heart.

So instead of a war movie we get a tale of inspiration about a man finding his true potential thanks to human kindness.

Saving Private Ryan basically becomes Inglorious Basterds in this trailer edit by Mashable which boots Steven Spielberg out from the director’s chair and replaces him with Quentin Tarantino. So if you were ever kept awake at night pondering what the classic war movie might be like had it been directed by Hollywood’s enfant terrible, this will show you.

It kind of makes you wonder then what Inglorious Basterds would be like directed by Spielberg. It would only be fair to see.

Terminator 2 is pretty much one of the greatest action movies ever, full of iconic scenes and quotable lines of dialogue—but imagine, if you will, that instead of being an action movie for the ages James Cameron’s 1991 movie was instead a toy commercial. And the toy it was for was an actual, and hopefully friendly, T-800 Arnie. WAAAANT!

Not only do they look over why modern trailers feel like this, they also detail what makes a great trailer standout.

They do this by looking back historically at trailers and seeing how they’ve changed.

Honest Trailers take on the blockbuster that started them all, Steven Spielberg’s classic movie about a great white shark terrorising a small town, Jaws. But they argue that the shark isn’t the real monster in the movie, instead that falls to the sinister Mayor Larry Vaughn—and they have a point.

Along with pointing this out they also chastise the movie for the seemingly endless, and terrible, sequels it spawned. Again, it’s a good point.

News broke earlier in the year that, after The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson was directing another stop motion animation movie. Called the Isle of Dogs Fox Searchlight have recently just dropped the first trailer for the film which features the voices of Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, and Jeff Goldblum. It’s scheduled for a release date of 23 March 2018.

Isle of Dogs tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

The new movie from Matt Damon is directed by Alexander Payne, who’s previously given the world Sideways—but his latest looks like it’s quite different to that. It delves into sci-fi as the plot is set in the near future where a new medical treatment allows people to be shrunk and miniaturized. Due to its affordability many people have undertaken it and whole tiny communities have formed. The idea is that it reduces people’s carbon footprint but many people do it because money is worth more, so you become richer.

Damon and his wife agree to have the irreversible procedure, and the film will follow them and the consequences of their decision.

Japanese director Takashi Miike’s latest film is an adaptation of the manga by Hiroaki Samura. It’s his 100th movie and it follows samurai Manji in feudal Japan as he lives his life as a criminal. The samurai has killed many people but has been cursed with immortality. The only way out of the curse is to kill more evil men, which leads to some insane, Tarantino-style violence and crazy action sequences.

It stars Takuya Kimura and Hana Sugisaki and is set for release November 3, 2017.

The latest trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 has been released and it furthers what we saw in the first and the teaser. It also shows that it’s following on quite closely from Ridley Scott’s original movie. We see Ryan Gosling’s LAPD Officer K searching for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), with Ford saying the Blade Runners were being hunted, including himself.

As the trailer reveals it seems Gosling’s character could be the key for the survival of the human race. Which may pit replicants against human in an all out war.

Filmmaker Tom Lowe’s new movie looks breathtaking, at least in this trailer it does. In the wordless documentary Lowe explores humanity’s relationship with technology and the natural world, being a celebration of life, Earth, and the Cosmos. It was filmed over five years in 30 countries and Lowe developed a new tech to capture the amazing footage.

From the skyline of Dubai to the northern lights the whole film looks astonishing.
