Surreal Remixes Turn Skiers’ Gurns and Laughter into Hilariously Daft ‘Slope Songs’

Your standard promotional ski video usually amounts to a professional skier gracefully showing off their effortless skill at winter sports. Carving up the slopes with their athleticism, you watch in awe (and jealousy) as they make a mockery of mere mortals’ skiing skills with their twists, jumps and daredevil speeds.

But that’s not how these two ski videos do things. Oh no. Instead these videos, made by content studio The Viral Factory, provide a much more amusing take.

Filmed using a GoPro mounted onto skiers’ helmets, they provide us with the whoops, yelps, and laughter elicited by the normal non-professional visitors and guests of the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resort in Austria. However that’s not all, because the expressive reactions, noises and gurns have been remixed into catchy and absurd songs by YouTube mashup artists Swede Mason and DJ Steve Porter.

The former you’ll know from the viral classic “Masterchef Synesthesia” which featured the legendary remix of BBC Masterchef’s Gregg Wallace talking about a “buttery biscuit base”. While DJ Steve Porter blessed the internet with, among many other remixes, the “Slap Chop Rap”—a mashup of the Slap Chop informercial that has amassed over 15 million views over the years.

“Most ski videos are just lovely shots of pro skiers carving through powder, so we decided to focus on the expressions and the noises normal people make when they’re skiing.” explains The Viral Factory’s Matt Smith. “We shot over 40 hours of footage and gave it to our favourite YouTube remixers and asked each one to create their own song of the slopes.”
