The trailers for Pixar’s Cars 3 have been pretty traumatic considering it’s a kids movie, seeming to suggest the death of Lightning McQueen, who’s been the main character for the films so far. And if you thought that idea was harrowing enough then you’ll be even more upset by the idea put forward in this new video from the Film Theorists.
Castlevania, the popular video game that features the Belmont family clan of vampire hunters who battle Dracula, is becoming an animated series. For fans this is good news, or it should be because the people involved have some good pedigree. It includes comic book writer Warren Ellis, producer Adi Shankar who directed Judge Dredd, and Kevin Kolde who works on Adventure Time. Frederator Studios who also work on Adventure Time and other similar animations are also involved.
Charlize Theron stars in the action thriller Atomic Blonde coming to cinemas in July 2017. It sees her playing an MI6 agent in a future world where Germany is verging on collapsing. Theron plays agent Lorraine Broughton who has to deliver a dossier in Berlin, a city that’s now crumbling into ruin.
Edgar Wight, the British film director behind such awesomely great movies as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, World’s End, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is back with a brand new movie. Rather than the comedies he’s usually associated with, this new movie is a heist thriller centered around a getaway driver who listens to music to drown out his tinnitus.
Next year it will be, shockingly, 20 years ago that The Big Lebowski was released. Yep, it really was that long ago which is either going to make you feel terribly old or terribly young, depending on whether you were born by then or not. Recently one of the film’s stars, John Goodman, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Netflix’s 80s horror sci-fi series Stranger Things was the breakout hit of last summer, and introduced the world to the fictitious town of Hawkins, Indiana. It hit the right notes of mystery, nostalgia, and thrills and now everyone can’t wait for the new season to start.
It might sound like a nightmare scenario for some, smoking weed on a blind date with a camera crew filming you. But it doesn’t seem to bother the people in this video from Cut Video, who are only to happy to smoke a bong or joint and ask awkward personal questions to each other. In fact, you could see it as the perfect ice breaker, as long as The Fear doesn’t take hold.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 drops very soon and this is the latest and last trailer for it before the film comes out on May 5, 2017. It features some new, fresh footage from the very much anticipated Marvel sequel. And that includes lots more shots of Baby Groot looking super cute and more of the new villain, the golden Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), who wants to ‘cleanse the universe’ of fear, jealousy, and betrayal.
If you’ve caught the first two seasons of the hit Netflix series about Columbian drug kingpin and leader of the Medellin Cartel, Pablo Escobar, then you’ll no doubt by hyped for Narcos season 3. It’s due to premiere later this year, likely September, and will focus on the Cali Cartel who in real life came up to take over the cocaine trade once Escobar was out of the picture.
CGI is obviously something that is a major part of filmmaking these days, but not all effects are computer-generated. Practical effects like puppets and animatronics are still very much in use. One place that’s certainly true is in the upcoming Ghost in the Shell movie. In this video Adam Savage visits Weta Workshop to get up close with some of the practical props the effects studio made for the film.
The greatness of David Lynch, and what also makes his movies totally terrifying, is that he can turn anything into something sinister and dangerous. And so, with that methodology in mind CineFix have taken this year’s Oscar favorite La La Land (not ‘quite’ the Best Picture winner), a feel good movie with lots of singing and dancing, and twisted into something else.
